Festival Day

The 2024 Christchurch Dance Festival welcomed 10 Christchurch Primary Schools to explore, create and perform a dance influenced by our theme ‘Festivals of the World’. Festivals and holidays have been practiced and celebrated since ancient times all around the world. To support the process, each school received a workshop, led by Christina, exploring all the weird and wonderful festivals from around the world, before diving into the creative process themselves and then performing twice at the De La Salle Theatre at St Peter’s School.

On the Festival Day, Thursday 27th June, the children performed to each other within a supportive and enthusiastic environment, where everyone celebrated the creative journey of each school. The following week, during our Evening Showcase on Thursday 4th July, the primary schools performed their dances for a final time to an audience of 450 people, alongside performances from 3 local secondary schools, as examples of how an interest in dance can continue throughout education… and beyond!

10 PRIMARY SCHOOLS, 3 SECONDARY SCHOOLS, 2 PERFORMANCES IN A PROFESSIONAL THEATRE, 300+ CHILDREN INVOLVED, 450+ AUDIENCE MEMBERS AND A SOLD OUT EVENT!

Thank you to all the teachers and teaching assistants who make the festival possible, for the hours of choreographing, rehearsing, costume designing and inspiring their children. The time and dedication staff put into their school’s performance is what makes these events so magical and memorable for everyone involved! A big thank you to St Peter’s School for hosting the festival events this year.
